Chris Wood is the proud owner of a BMW i8 after he produced a tournament-record fifth hole-in-one of the BMW PGA Championship.
The tall Bristolian made a late charge up the leaderboard on the final day with a superb back nine, the highlight being a perfect seven-iron at the 178-yard 14th which pitched softly on the green and had just enough pace to fall into the cup.Following aces from Craig Lee, Andrew Johnston and Miguel Angel Jimenez in earlier rounds, South African Trevor Fisher Jnr made it four for the tournament early on Sunday when he holed his short-iron at the second.
The 1990 edition also featured four holes-in-one, but that benchmark was eclipsed when Wood followed birdies at 10 and 12 with a magical one at the 14th.
After watching the ball drop, playing partner Shane Lowry immediately pointed Wood in the direction of his prize, a stunning hybrid sports car worth over £100,000.
"It was a cracker of a shot, and I just about fit in the car" said the Englishman, who chatted with Jimenez shortly after the Spaniard had set a European Tour record with his 10th hole-in-one on Saturday.
"Last night at the hotel I bumped into Miguel and I said 'Another hole-in-one, when is it my turn?' "All the players look on the 14th on Tuesday when we have a practice round and we think, 'Wouldn't it be nice, a BMW i8?' You never think that it's going to happen to you.
"I hit a great shot and it was a bit of a delayed reaction because you hear two cheers; one sounded like it just missed and the second one it went in. I think my caddie was more excited than I was."
