Paul McGinley thinks the players should be allowed to focus on The Open without being asked about the Olympics

With less than a month to go until golf makes its Olympic return, Paul McGinley discusses the problems the game is facing in the build-up to Rio.

There's a lot to discuss about golf's position in the Olympics and we will down the road. Everyone needs to take some responsibility with everything that has happened with the Olympics.

We need to find a way forward and decide if there is a place for golf in the Olympics and if so, we all need to row in behind with a proper strategy of how to showcase the game, including schedules.

The number of withdrawals has damaged it somewhat, as you want your best players to showcase the sport.

The likes of Tiger Woods, Padraig Harrington and Colin Montgomerie were all very much behind golf in the Olympics when it was decided seven or eight years ago, but now there's an age gap.
