Dame Laura Davies and Henni Goya review Team USA's victory over Team Europe in the Solheim Cup

Dame Laura Davies has hailed Annika Sorenstam and the spirit of the European side after a resolute performance in the Solheim Cup Sunday singles.

Team USA opened up a 5.5-2.5 lead after the opening day and extended their advantage to five points heading into the final day in Iowa, leaving Team Europe requiring the biggest singles comeback in the tournament's history.

A record European defeat looked possible early in the final session, only for the visitors to rally and win half of the 12 matches during the final day.

Victories from Catriona Matthew and Charley Hull couldn't stop Juli Inkster's side prevailing 16.5-11.5 at Des Moines Golf and Country Club and retaining the trophy, but Davies believes there are plenty of positives to take from the week.

"We fought right to the end and, for about half an hour, Juli Inkster would have been pretty uncomfortable," Davies told Sky Sports.

"Annika (Sorenstam) did such a good job. She got the pairings right and it was unfortunate she lost Charley (Hull).

"I think Annika's come out with a lot of credit and a lot of people were surprised not by the great job she did, but by the way she went about it. I don't know if she could have done anything differently."
