The final round of the 2018 Masters was expected to be a showdown between Ryder Cup rivals Patrick Reed and Rory McIlroy in the final pairing, but it did not live up to the hype.
While Reed was celebrating a momentous victory. McIlroy was left to reflect on what might have been as he gradually slipped out of contention over 18 frustrating holes at Augusta National.
Here's how the pair tackled each hole on Sunday:
RM: Skied his drive way right, smashed through trees to front-left bunker, splashed out to five feet, but a good par save from there.
PR: Pulled drive close to a pine tree on the left, stabbed second into front-left bunker, thinned bunker escape, two putts for bogey
RM: Perfect drive straight down the pipe, and long, followed by a stunning second to four feet. But eagle putt was pushed wide, disappointing birdie in the end.
PR: Second shot found the left bunker, 30 yards from the pin, good splash out to eight feet down the hill, but settled for a two-putt par.
RM: Approach blocked and spun back off the green, pitched to eight feet, par putt drifts wide. Bad result from a perfect tee shot.
PR: Solid second to back fringe, slippery putt just caught enough of the hole to drop for a two-shot swing.
RM: Back on form with a pure 230-yard five-iron to three feet, and he finally got a putt to drop.
PR: Tee shot crept onto the front of the green, bad first putt left him five feet for par, but he made no mistake.
RM: Three-wood caught the right edge of the fairway, second comes up short. Well-judged third to four feet, but another short putt missed the target.
PR: Drive flirted with the bunkers but safe, solid approach to the heart of the green and easy two-putt par.
RM: Clearly didn't make the desired contact from the tee and another iron comes up short, but he got his ball up the hill to six feet and rattled in a priceless par putt.
PR: Tee shot just missed the front bunker, but his aggressive putt raced past the cup and he was unable to make the return.
RM: Drive leaked right into the first cut and a low-hanging tree branch hampered his backswing, but he stabbed his second up close to the front edge, chipped to three feet and saved his par.
PR: Pulled drive into the first cut on the left, but a sublime approach catches the back slope and rolls to tap-in range for birdie.
RM: Awful hole! Blazed drive into trees on the right, pitch back out to fairway, third from a long way back didn't quite reach, chip raced seven feet long and the par putt lipped out. Ouch!
PR: Nice third set up a very makeable chance for birdie to go five clear, but he misread the putt to stay at 14 under.
RM: Fairway found! And McIlroy took advantage of his big drive with a controlled wedge to six feet. But another putt is pushed to the right and he turned in 37.
PR: Good drive, but second is way short and spins back off the green, from where he uses the contours to great effect with his pitch to four feet. No mistake with the putt, out in 36.
RM: Three-wood bounded into the first cut, but a safe second found the green, 30 feet right of the flag. Birdie putt trundled four feet past, but the return dropped for par.
PR: Arrow-straight drive, second was right on line and found the green, some 15 feet short. Birdie putt looked good, but just ran out of pace.
RM: Huge drive, but second drifted right of the green into Larry Mize territory. Clumsy pitch to eight feet, and the return was left all the way. Another shot frittered away.
PR: Drive blazed into the trees, but he found a route out and was lucky to avoid the drink. Good chip to four feet, but the par putt lipped out on the left edge.
RM: Tugged tee shot found the back fringe, but a good lag putt set up a tap-in for par.
PR: Also long from the tee but not as far left as McIlroy, and his birdie putt was perfect for pace and distance as he returned to where he started the day - 14 under.
RM: Drive leaked into the first cut, but a towering iron from over 190 yards found the heart of the green. Rory allowed too much borrow on the eagle putt from 20 feet, but it's a tap-in birdie.
PR: Good drive, but a mis-hit second appeared to be heading for Rae's Creek, although he caught a huge break as his ball plugged in the bank. Pitch came up six feet short, and the birdie putt was six millimetres short!
RM: Nice drive and a solid approach set up a must-make birdie chance, but he grazed the edge and then missed the return from four feet to slip out of contention.
PR: With Spieth on the charge up ahead, Reed was now in a share of the lead. But he jumped back to the top on his own after knocking a sweet approach to six feet and rattling in the putt.
RM: Pulled drive too far left and blocked out by the trees, forcing a lay-up. Safe third to the back of the green, and a two-putt for a par.
PR: Reed was also forced to lay up from the left edge of the fairway, and his third bounded just over the green. But he did well to get down in two to stay in front.
RM: Tee shot was on a good line and rolled down the slope from the centre of the green to 12 feet, but the putt lacked conviction.
PR: Confident tee shot found the right level on the green and set up a birdie chance to give himself a two-shot cushion, but he settled for a cast-iron par.
RM: Another pushed drive flirted with the tree line, but he managed to get his second onto the front of the green to set up another two-putt par
PR: Did well to find the left edge of the green in two after his drive drifted right, but his first putt left him a knee-knocker for par. But he was up to the task, one-shot lead down the last.
RM: Nice drive pulled up short of the fairway bunkers, but his second leaked right and found the front-right edge of the green. McIlroy cut a disconsolate figure as he tapped in for par to leave the stage clear for Reed.
PR: No nerves here as he flushed his drive, although it did come close to catching the same tree branch as Spieth's. Reed knocked a good second beyond the pin, but his birdie putt trickled an uncomfortable distance past the hole. But he held his nerve to nail it from three feet to become the 2018 Masters champion.
