Chris Wood and John Morgan believe Rory McIlroy will win the Masters this weekend to complete the career Grand Slam

Chris Wood and John E Morgan have backed Rory McIlroy to capture a maiden Masters title and complete the career Grand Slam.

McIlroy is in a tie for fourth place heading into the weekend's action on four-under par, five shots behind halfway leader Patrick Reed, but the Northern Irishman is not short in backing for the Green Jacket.

Wood, who has played at Augusta National on two occasions, and Sky Sports Golf commentator Morgan both video called into the Masters Breakfast show to offer their reflections on the opening two days play and look ahead to what promises to be an excited weekend's action.

With eight former major winners in the top 13, including Jordan Spieth, Henrik Stenson and Dustin Johnson, the guests were keen to highlight the chances for McIlroy.

"I am all for Rory," Morgan said. "At the start of the week it was Rory all day long for me. A bit like [how] Jack Nicklaus said at the start of the week that he was his man for the week.

"I think he is going to come through shining. I just want that putter to get a bit hot for him, a bit like at Bay Hill on the last day when it all clicked.

"I just think Rory knows every grain of grass around this golf course. He has played it umpteen times so I think it is his time."

Wood, who initially backed Reed on the Sky Sports Golf Masters preview podcast on Monday, echoed his confidence in the former world No 1, but indicated McIlroy would need to produce two strong rounds over the weekend.

"I think Patrick Reed or Rory will win," Wood said. "Reed is a couple clear [of Marc Leishman] and three or four clear of the next player. He is too good a player to put in some high scores."
