Tom Watson described his final round at the Masters as "special" and "a pleasure."
The two-time champion shot 78 to finish on eight over for the tournament in his 43rd appearance at Augusta.
After completing his final hole at a major championship, Watson paid tribute to the Augusta crowd and spoke of what the Masters had meant to him over the years.
"The fans, the patrons were very, very generous with their applause and 'hats off to Tom' all the way around the golf course today. It was a pleasure," he told Sky Sports.
"The other thing was that I had my friends and my family there and I could share it with them. My younger brother flew in from New York as a surprise so that was special.
"To finish at Augusta with my friends and family watching, that's the way to go out, it truly is."
Watson expressed his disappointment at not having made the cut but admitted he would be pleased not to have to play the 18th hole again next year.
"Today, my 43rd time playing, it was a pleasure," he added. "I didn't totally stink up the joint but wish I could've made the cut and continued on over the week. But it wasn't a bad way to go out.
"It's always been the rites of spring, when played the tour and fortunately won the tournament, it was always preparation, start preparing for the tournament six weeks in advance and it was always so exciting and to look forward to and prepare and then play it.
"When I'm sat in my easy chair back here next year, I'll say 'man I'm glad I don't have to play the 18th hole anymore!'"
