Lee Westwood has revealed he is taking it steady in practice ahead of The Masters as he does not want to be "burnt out" when the tournament gets under way on Thursday.
The 42-year-old Englishman is set to make his 17th appearance at Augusta National and he believes it is important not to peak too soon ahead of the first major of the year.
Westwood, whose best finish in The Masters was in 2010 when he came second, is also practising without a swing coach as he does not want to tinker with his game at this stage of the build-up.
He said: "I think the Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday leading up to The Masters is not the time to think about your swing. You should be focused more on the tournament itself, so I've eased off on the coaching a little bit close to tournaments.
"Thursday can come around - especially this tournament - and you can be a little bit burnt out.
"I played 18 holes yesterday (Sunday) afternoon and I'll probably play 18 today (Monday), but then I'll cut it back to nine tomorrow (Tuesday) and then maybe just four, five or six holes on Wednesday and then the par-three tournament, which I always love to do.
"I think people realised that when Thursday came around and they had had three or four sets of 18 holes they had already played a tournament before the tournament started. So physically you can get worn out, but mentally, more than anything, this is a really draining golf course."
