Former world No 1 Adam Scott looks set to crash out of the FedExCup play-offs after a three-over 73 saw him miss the cut at The Barclays.

The Australian, who came in to this week 94th in the FedExCup standings and in need of a strong display to stay in the top 100 for next week's Deutsche Bank Championship, carded five bogeys in a disappointing round at Plainfield CC.

Beginning on the back nine, Scott recovered from a blemish at the 11th to post a 26-foot gain at the short 14th but slipped down the leaderboard after successive bogeys at the 16th and 17th.

Two further dropped shots after reaching the turn all-but ended the world No 12 hopes, with Scott ending four over for the week despite nailing a 35-foot putt to birdie the eighth.

Former Masters champion Charl Schwartzel's season also appears to be coming to an early end after a second consecutive 72 saw him fail to qualify for the weekend, while Jonas Blixt, Tim Clark and Graham DeLaet are also projected to drop out of the top 100 in the standings.

Erik Compton walks up the third hole during the second round of the Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield.

Erik Compton's FedExCup came to an early end when the American was forced to withdraw with respiratory problems just eight holes into his opening round.

Compton later tweeted: "Not how I wanted to end a season. No amount of determination was going to get me healthy, but I had to try. I am down, I will get up. Fact!"
