Tiger Woods was the most notable player who failed to qualify for the FedExCup Play-offs, but there were a number of other high-profile golfers who are now done for the season on the PGA Tour.

The Wyndham Championship was the final event on the regular PGA Tour this year, and a number of players were scrambling hard to get "inside the bubble" and extend their seasons - or careers in some cases.

European Ryder Cup stars Graeme McDowell (160), Martin Kaymer (139) and Jamie Donaldson (130) all failed to make it into the top 125 on the FedExCup standings and win the right to tee it up in The Barclays this week - the first of the four play-off events.

Since the new end-of-season format was introduced in 2007, 30 players were ever-presents in the play-offs, but only 22 of those have extended that record this year.

Four-time major winner Ernie Els will miss out for the first time along with American veteran Steve Stricker, while Freddie Jacobson, Brian Davis, Bo Van Pelt, Geoff Ogilvy, Aaron Baddeley and KJ Choi are also absent.

Former US Open and Masters champion Angel Cabrera was another casualty, and Robert Allenby ended an eventful year both on and off the course by failing to qualify.

"I think sometimes in this game when you don't really have a choice anymore, you really stick in there and give it your all," Schwartzel said. "It was like that for me this week."

Jason Gore finished one shot shy of surprise winner Davis Love III at Sedgefield, but his solo second saw him become one of five players to qualify from outside the top 125 at the start of the week, with Love, Jonas Blixt, Camilo Villegas and Ryo Ishikawa the others to squeeze in.

Hudson Swafford is now the man "on the bubble" ahead of The Barclays, where the leading 100 players will advance to the Deutsche Bank Championship.

Meanwhile, spare a thought for Will MacKenzie, who finished in 126th place - just 0.437 points behind Jeff Overton.
