World No 2 Jordan Spieth is determined to shake off his bad form at the PGA Championship after missing the cut in the last two years.

The 22-year-old may have won the Masters and US Open and finished a shot outside a play-off for the Open, but he has yet to achieve his major targets for the season.

Speaking on the eve of the 97th PGA Championship at Whistling Straits, Spieth said: "I still haven't accomplished that goal set at the beginning of the year - to make the cut in all the majors.

"I wanted to contend and have a chance to win at least one of them. Certainly they have gone according to plan up to this point but that first part of that goal has yet to be accomplished so I've got some work to do these first two days.

"From there, we'll adjust and work our butts off to try and get a third major this year, which would be a pretty cool place in history to be a part of."

Jordan Spieth feels prepared for the US PGA Championship.

Only fellow Texan Ben Hogan, in 1953, and Tiger Woods in 2000 have ever won three major titles in a single season, but Spieth has missed the cut in both of his previous appearances in the US PGA.

"It irks me a bit," added Spieth who could replace playing partner Rory McIlroy at the top of the rankings depending on the results.

"It's frustrating at any tournament if you miss a cut, let alone if you miss a cut multiple times in an event.

"It's not going to impact me whatsoever this week, but certainly looking back (to 2013 and 2014), those were a couple of frustrating weeks for me the last couple of years.

Rory McIlroy insists he is ft and ready to defend his PGA Championship title

"I played three majors in 2013 and missed the cut in two of them and we have been improving each year in the major championships.

"This year, if I can get in contention again and not only get over that hurdle of making the cut at a PGA Championship, but also trying to contend to win, I think we're going to be a lot more mature in that situation."

When asked for comparisons with McIlroy, featuring after recovering from an ankle injury, Spieth stated: "I wish I could hit as far as he does but I am working towards that. I've got longer each year.

"When he's driving well, they are playing a different golf course and I'm envious of that. Rory is an inspiring player and I enjoy playing with him. You can feed off guys who are incredible golfers."
