World No 1 Dustin Johnson continued his unbeaten start to the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play, as Rory McIlroy suffered an early exit without playing a hole on Thursday.
Johnson comfortably dispatched Martin Kaymer 3&2 to remain top of Group One, while McIlroy was knocked out following Soren Kjedsen's 4&3 victory over Emiliano Grillo.
McIlroy claimed a walkover win against Gary Woodland after the American withdrew from the tournament for a "personal family matter", leaving Kjeldsen - due to face Woodland on Friday - guaranteed top spot in Group Three.
Alex Noren is the other player already qualified for the last 16 following his 3&2 triumph over Bernd Wiesberger and Francesco Molinari's withdrawal from Group Eight, with Bubba Watson and Phil Mickelson also amongst the 14 players still boasting 100 per cent records.
Johnson made a fast start and was four ahead inside the opening seven holes, before completing victory by matching Kaymer's birdie at the par-five 16th.
The US Open champion will now need to avoid defeat against Jimmy Walker - who saw off Webb Simpson 3&2 - to progress, while Jordan Spieth bounced back from his opening-day defeat in Group Four to beat Yuta Ikeda 4&2.
Watson showed signs of a return to form as he saw off Scott Piercy 4&3, as Mickelson thrashed Daniel Berger 5&4 and Matt Fitzpatrick won the all-English clash against Chris Wood 4&2 in Group Six.
Sergio Garcia defeated Kevin Chappell set up a Spanish shoot-out in Group Seven with Jon Rahm, who sent Shane Lowry home with a 2&1 win, while Tyrrell Hatton and Paul Casey made it two wins from two against Jeunghun Wang and Byeong Hun An respectively.
Masters champion Danny Willett was eliminated with a game to spare after being thrashed 6&5 by Bill Haas, with Patrick Reed also out after a narrow defeat against compatriot Kevin Kisner.
42 players still have a chance to qualify for the knockout stages heading in to the final set of round-robin fixtures, with play-offs to determine those who progress from any tied groups.
