Fabian Gomez beat Brandt Snedeker in a play-off to win the Sony Open in Hawaii, his second PGA Tour title.
The Argentine overcame a four-shot deficit in Sunday's final round at Waialae Country Club, carding 10 birdies in an eight-under 62 to post a 20-under target.
Gomez was in stunning form during the middle part of his round, making seven consecutive birdies from the sixth hole, with his approach play so accurate that only one of the putts he made was from outside eight feet.
Having closed on, and passed, the leaders Gomez went on to drop shots at the 13th and 14th, but he made sure of posting a tough target with further birdies on the last two holes.
There were challengers still out on course, and third round leader Snedeker finally started to find his game in the last third of his final round.
Snedeker was stuck on 17 under with five holes remaining, having managed only two birdies to go with one dropped shot, but he stayed in touch with Gomez by picking up a shot at the 14th.
A further birdie would follow at the 16th and Snedeker managed to join Gomez on 20 under, and force a play-off, when he birdied the last.
Both men parred the 18th once the play-off got underway, but Gomez managed a birdie second time around when he took two to get down from the front of the green at the par-five closing hole.
That left Snedeker with a 12-footer to keep the tournament going, but the American's normally reliable putter let him down and he came up short to hand Gomez an emotional victory.
"I'm really, really happy," Gomez said. "It's my second victory on tour. I felt good all week long and was able to put on a great round today. I got on a streak with seven putts in a row and it made me feel good, like I could win the tournament."
Gomez became tearful talking about the recent death of his caddie Adrian Monteros' father, adding: "This win is in his name."
Zac Blair came close to joining Gomez and Snedeker in the play-off, and led briefly in the closing stages, but he was left needing an eagle at the last to get to 20 under and just missed his attempt, leaving him in third on 19 under.
Englishman Greg Owen enjoyed an excellent final day, carding a round of 66 to finish in a tie for fifth alongside FedEx Cup points leader Kevin Kisner, who had a disappointing level-par 70 on Sunday.
