The European Tour has joined forces with its Australasia counterpart to promote a new-style event that will combine both strokeplay and matchplay formats.

Next February's World Super 6 Perth tournament will consist of three rounds of stroke-play, followed by a final matchplay phase that will include the leading 24 golfers after 54 holes.

To be staged at Lake Karrinyup Country Club north of Perth from February 16-19, the event will comprise of a normal 36-hole cut.

The leading 24 players after the third round will then contest the matchplay segment on Sunday, with play-offs to determine who qualifies in case of ties.

On Sunday, all matches will be held over six holes, with a special knock-out hole should these matches end in a tie.

The knock-out hole will be specially built and be 100 yards in length. If the golfers remain tied after playing the hole once, they will then return to the tee and take part in a nearest-to-the-pin contest to determine the victor.

According to the European Tour's own website: "The World Super 6 Perth is a revolutionary tournament designed to retain the traditions of the game whilst appealing to a broader market."
