Pre-tournament favourite Branden Grace moved in to a share of the second round lead at the SA Open, before bad weather saw play suspended.
Grace followed on from the strong finish to his opening round 69 by playing the first 11 holes on Friday in five under, before the threat of lightning saw play suspended around 3.05pm local time with half of the field still out on the course.
The top seed surged up the leaderboard with a run of four consecutive birdies from the second, only to give a shot back after missing the green off the tee at the par-three sixth.
Back-to-back gains after the turn moved the world No 14 alongside clubhouse pacesetter Keith Horne, with one-time leader Jbe Kruger a further stroke back on a home-dominated leaderboard where 11 of the current top 13 are South African.
"It was tough on the back nine, but I was just able to keep going by making a lot of really good saves out there," Horne said. "I didn't necessarily play as well as I did yesterday and I didn't play that great because I only made three birdies, but the big thing was making no bogeys."
Overnight leader Jaco Van Zyl slipped away by following three blemishes on the front nine by finding the water and running up a double-bogey at the 10th, while world No 317 Ross McGowan is currently the best performing European and lies two off the pace thanks to a two-under 70.
Defending champion Andy Sullivan faces a wait to see whether he has done enough to scrape through to the weekend, with a four-putt double-bogey at the 17th leaving him three over for the week and currently one shot below the cut-mark.
An ace at the 173-yard 14th from Richard McEvoy guided him to a three-under 69, with Le Roux Ferreira also making a hole-in-one on the same hole shortly before play was brought to a halt.
Play will resume at 6.30am local time (4.30am GMT) on Saturday morning, with the third round being played under a two-tee start from no earlier than 11am (9am GMT).
