Ryder Cup stars Lee Westwood and Danny Willett turned back the clock as the European Tour celebrated 70 years of the Omega European Masters with the Hickory Golf Challenge.
Westwood, Willett, Miguel Angel Jimenez and 2013 Hickory World Golf champion Paolo Quirici swapped their modern equipment for hickory-shafted clubs for the two-hole contest at Crans-sur-Sierre, with each dressing in plus-fours and flat caps in a tribute to the players of yesteryear.
Jimenez laughed off a near-shank with his adopted driver from the first tee, while Willett knocked a brilliant shot onto the green from a fairway bunker before admitting he was not even sure what club he had used!
But it was Westwood who appeared to cope best with the transition to the archaic equipment, winning the longest drive prize with a mighty blow of 251 yards and also holing an excellent putt from 15 feet.
Westwood and Willett were tied on level par after the two holes, and the English pair headed to the drop zone by the 18th green for a nearest the pin chipping challenge to decide the winner.
