Juli Inkster could not contain her delight after watching her USA team mount an astonishing comeback to reclaim the Solheim Cup in Germany.

Europe looked poised to win for the third time running after opening up a 10-6 lead following a highly-controversial end to the delayed fourballs matches early on Sunday morning.

But the Americans dominated the 12 singles and earned the eight and a half points they needed to clinch a thrilling 14½-13½ victory, although their performance was overshadowed by the events of the morning.

USA rookie Lee missed a putt on the 17th and then picked up her ball under the assumption Europe had conceded - Charley Hull was already walking towards the last hole - only for Suzann Pettersen to claim Europe had not conceded the short putt that remained. The Solheim Cup was overshadowed by a controversial incident on Sunday morning

"I didn't have to say anything to them after this morning, they were all fired up and ready to go out and play," USA captain Inkster said afterwards.

"Last night I put my line-up together and it fell in perfectly the way I wanted it and the girls just played awesome today. They never gave up. Everybody did their job and I couldn't be prouder of those girls.

"This is just amazing. I can't describe the difference in my emotions of this morning to the emotions of this afternoon. My team played so damned good out there. They just never gave up. It was unbelievable.

"I just loved my line-up. I loved the way they stacked up today. I just have so many people I have to thank. It's a great feeling. You know what, I was on them all week. You've got to play with heart. You've got to play with fire in your belly. Never give up. I saw a real team out there today. It didn't look good early, but they hung in there."

Inkster picked out Angela Stanford for particular praise after the veteran ended a run of nine straight defeats in the Solheim Cup with a priceless victory over Pettersen.

"Angela deserved that," Inkster added. "She played pretty good (earlier) this week but didn't get a point. I know everyone was on her because of her record but she wanted it today and she played awesome."
