As Jason Day celebrated a convincing victory at The Barclays, his fellow Australian Adam Scott was the highest-profile casualty after the first week of the FedExCup Play-offs.
Scott's erratic season came to a premature end when rounds of 71 and 73 saw him miss the halfway cut by two shots at Plainfield Country Club - the second time in three starts he has failed to make the weekend.
As a result, the world No 13 slipped from 94th to 106th in the FedExCup standings, with only the top 100 advancing to the Deutsche Bank Championship this week.
Scott, who has posted only three top-10 finishes this year, will be joined on the sidelines by fellow former Masters champion Charl Schwartzel after the South African also missed the cut in New Jersey.
Padraig Harrington (MC) also dropped out of the top 100 along with Francesco Molinari, who opted not to play The Barclays, while Lee Westwood's tie for 58th moved him just one place up the standings to 109th.
But there was better news for former world No 1 Luke Donald, who birdied the final hole on Sunday to finish in a share of 24th place on three under and moved from 119th to 87th.
Donald was one of eight players to break into the top 100 along with Jason Dufner and Camilo Villegas, who rolled in a 10-foot putt for par on the 72nd green to sneak into the Deutsche Bank Championship ranked 99th.
The Colombian scraped into the Play-offs with a tie for 30th at the Wyndham Championship, and he said: "Last Sunday was a lot of pressure. I'd say I felt more comfortable here but I got anxious at the end and then made the toughest putt I had all day. The one I had on 18 gives me a chance to go to next week.
"I'm playing better, but I need to be a little sharper mentally when there is a little heat on. Were there nerves? Yes. There was pressure and I need to get a little bit better at that. I haven't put myself in this situation a lot the last couple years and when you're not in that situation you're not as comfortable."
Villegas has a decent record at TPC Boston, but he needs a strong showing if he is to move inside the top 70 and qualify for the BMW Championship - the third event of four in the Play-offs.
"I don't want to come from so far behind, but it is what it is," he added. "This was the most important week of the year by far. I'm going (hopefully) four more rounds next week and if you win the tournament guess what you have a chance to win the FedExCup. This month can do a lot of things for your career."
But while Villegas managed to extend his season, Nick Taylor was eliminated in 101st place after narrowly missing a seven-foot putt for birdie at the last on Sunday, while 2009 Open champion Stewart Cink bogeyed the final hole to slip to 102nd.
