Steve Stricker has been named as the third assistant to United States captain Jay Haas for October’s Presidents Cup in South Korea.
The five-time Presidents Cup player will join Fred Couples and Davis Love III in helping Haas as the Americans try to win the biannual tournament for the sixth time running, with the event being held from October 6-11 at the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club in Incheon City..
"Steve's insight, quiet perspective and positive demeanor will be invaluable in the team room," Haas said. "He will be contributing a lot over the next two months as we prepare for Korea."
"The US Team wouldn't be complete without him, so it really was a no-brainer to add him as my third captain's assistant."
Reigning US Open and Masters champion Jordan Spieth leads the current standings of those set to feature in the American team, while Charley Hoffman, JB Holmes and Billy Horschel among those who face a battle to achieve the top-ten place needed for automatic qualification.
"I'm honoured that Jay asked me to join the US Team," Stricker said. "I absolutely love the team atmosphere of The Presidents Cup and would have been sad to miss out on it for the first time in a decade, especially on such a momentous occasion as the event heads to Asia for the first time."
International Team captain Nick Price's leadership team includes vice-captain K.J. Choi and captain's assistants Tony Johnstone and Mark McNulty.
