Another unlucky spectator was on the end of a Justin Rose drive, just a month after another fan was hit at the Memorial Tournament.

Another unlucky spectator was on the receiving end of a wayward Justin Rose drive during the second round of the Scottish Open at Gullane.

The defending champion pulled his tee-shot at the 599 yard par-five 16th a long way left, sending his drive in the direction of the large group of spectators.

On-course medics rushed to the scene as one fan was left with a tennis ball-sized lump on his head, while a teenage member of the crowd appeared to faint after seeing the injury.

"You can't quite see where the spectator line is on that hole and when I saw the ball bounce up I was hoping it had maybe hit one of the white stakes," Rose said after a second round 66.

"I was pretty concerned walking up there and seeing there was someone on the ground, but he took it like a trooper and was talking to me so that was slightly reassuring. He told me had been coming to tournaments for years and years and had never got hit before."

"And bless the young fellow. He got a bit weak at the knees but fortunately he came around quite quickly."

It's the second time in just five weeks that Rose has seen a shot strike someone in the crowd, having knocked a patron to the ground with a shanked bunker shot at last month's Memorial Tournament
