Butch Harmon believes Jordan Spieth performed like a player far beyond his years to secure his maiden Masters title.
The 21-year-old was in record breaking form throughout the week at Augusta, setting the all-time lowest 36 and 54-hole Masters scores on his way to a four stroke victory over Justin Rose and three-time winner Phil Mickelson.
Spieth becomes the second-youngest player to ever claim the Green Jacket, with his 18 under par equalling Tiger Woods' 18-year-old record as the lowest collated 72-hole score.
The Texan was only making his second ever appearance at golf's first major of the year, but Harmon feels Spieth was performing like a more experienced professional than his age suggests.
"He didn’t play like a kid this week," Harmon, Phil Mickelson's coach, told Sky Sports. "Everything he did wasn't like a 21-year-old."
Victory for the American ended world No 1 Rory McIlroy's hopes of completing the Grand Slam and within one major of a 'Rory Slam', as the Northern Irishman finished six shots back in outright fourth.
McIlroy recovered from a slow start to the week to post a six-under final round 66, with former Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley believing Spieth's win will be good for the sport.
“This is good for Rory and is the kind of rivalry he needs. The game needs it too and I think we’re in for a good few years with some of these stars coming through.”
