Ben Crenshaw will stand in for the injured Arnold Palmer at the Masters par-three curtain-raiser at Augusta.

Palmer is unable to play alongside Gary Player and Jack Nicklaus after he dislocated his shoulder, although the 85-year-old will still act as honorary starter.

Billy Payne, chairman of Augusta National said it was disappointing to hear of Palmer’s injury but said health had to come first.

Live Masters - Par Three Tournament

"We are very excited to welcome him to the tee on Thursday as an honorary starter, where we will once again honour his extraordinary contributions to the Masters Tournament and the game of golf," Payne said.

Following the par three event, Crenshaw will take part in his 44th consecutive Masters tournament, which will also be his last after he decided to call time on his Augusta participation.

Crenshaw has competed at every Masters since he was a 20-year-old amateur in 1972 - winning the green jacket twice in 1984 and 1995 - but has failed to make the halfway cut since 2007.
