American Charles Howell has opted not to take up his place in the Open Championship and will be replaced at Hoylake by Denmark's Thorbjorn Olesen.
Howell, whose best Open finish was a share of 28th in 2011, was one of 10 players to get into the field via their world ranking position on Wednesday. No reason was given for his decision.
Fellow American Chris Stroud is now first reserve, followed by England's Ross Fisher and Canada's David Hearn.
Olesen impressed in the 2012 Open at Lytham, finishing in a tie for ninth. He missed the cut at Muirfield last year.
The Dane was 44th in the Masters earlier year but didn't qualify for the US Open at Pinehurst.
