Play was been suspended in the final round of the Maybank Championship with the last group on the 18th green.

Australia's Scott Hend holds a one-shot lead over Spain's Nacho Elvira, who was disturbed by a clap of thunder as he played his pitch to the last.

Moments later play was suspended as a thunderstorm hit Saujana Country Club in Kuala Lumpur.

Hend began the final round three shots behind Elvira, but fired five birdies in a front nine of 31 to move to the top of the leaderboard.

Another birdie on the 13th gave Hend a two-shot cushion and he looked set to extend it after a superb tee shot on the par-three 16th, only for Elvira to match the approach and convert his birdie attempt before Hend left his inches short.

Heavy rain began to fall with the last group on the 18th fairway and after Hend hit his third shot to around 30 feet, the thunder arrived as Elvira did likewise to leave the destiny of the tournament in the balance.
