Shane Lowry enjoyed a huge slice of luck during the first round of the Open de France as he avoided water in bizarre circumstances.
Lowry's approach to the tricky 15th hole stalled in the air and came up short of the target, with his ball seemingly destined to end up at the bottom of the lake guarding the front of the green.
Even when his ball cannoned off the wooden surround, the Irishman looked certain to be dropping for his third shot and playing four from short of the hazard, but the bounce off the wood was so big it rebounded back over the water and onto dry land.
And, after his unscheduled 'lay-up', Lowry took full advantage of his good fortune as he pitched to within a couple of feet of the hole to set up a virtual tap-in for his par four, which he celebrated with a birdie at the next.
Lowry would, however, go on to drop a shot at the last, although his one-under 70 was the only round under the card among the afternoon starters at Le Golf National.
