Sam Horsfield is looking forward to playing alongside Rory McIlroy after he added a 68 to his opening 67 at the BMW PGA Championship.
Horsfield gave himself a great chance to reel in the early leader when he got to within two following a sparkling run of four birdies in five holes on the back nine at Wentworth.
But the young Englishman got into trouble at 17 and ran up a six, and he was unable to get the shot back at the last as a par saw him close on nine-under at the halfway stage, which was good enough for second place alongside Frenchman Sebastien Gros.
"I think any time you're playing on the weekend and you're up there near Rory, I think you're going to be doing pretty well," said Horsfield, who earned his rookie season on the European Tour after coasting to an eight-shot victory in the final stage of Qualifying School last November.
"I'm just looking forward to Saturday, I'm going to go out there and give it my all.
"I'm trying not to think about it too much. The golf course is really good for me and I like the way it is. You know, just sort of keep playing my game and let everything else take care of itself.
"Like I said on the back nine, you can get it going out here. I made a good birdie on 13 and then hit a good seven-iron in there on the 14th, 20 feet right under the hole and I got a line from the guy I was playing with and it was straight uphill.
"I had a little wobble coming in on 17 when I misjudged the lie, but all in all it was a good day. It's not the widest of golf courses off the tee so you can definitely get yourself in trouble, but you can make birdies out here, as the guys have shown.
"The conditions are soft with the rain yesterday and you can go flag hunting, and I think it's going to become a putting contest coming down to Sunday. I feel really comfortable with my putter right now, so I'm looking forward to it."
