Kevin Kisner and Scott Brown posted a combined eight-under 64 to take a one-shot lead into the final round of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.
The American pair, who finished runners-up in the team tournament in 2017, mixed 10 birdies with two bogeys in the best ball format at TPC Louisiana to move top of the leaderboard.
Tony Finau and Daniel Summerhays share second spot on 19 under alongside overnight leaders Michael Kim and Andrew Putnam, with Chesson Hadley and Brice Garnett a further shot back.
Scottish pair Russell Knox and Martin Laird are in in the group four off the pace that also includes Tommy Fleetwood and Chris Paisley, while 17 teams are within five shots of the lead heading into Sunday's final round.
Beginning the round one stroke behind, Kisner and Brown teamed up for five birdies over the first nine holes and added another at the par-five 11th.
Kisner cancelled out a blemish at the 12th with back-to-back birdies over his next two holes and bounced back from a bogey at the 15th to hole a 15-footer at the next, before Brown closed the round with a close-range gain at the last.
Finau and Summerhays had four consecutive birdies from the 14th hole to post a nine-under 63, while Putnam made five of his team's six birdies to keep him and Kim in contention.
Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson posted a seven-under 65 to stay within five of the lead, with Graeme McDowell and Ian Poulter a further shot back.
