Jason Day claimed a share of second at the AT&T Pebble Beach, after a dramatic finish to his final round in California.
The former world No 1 posted a two-under 70 on Sunday to join Phil Mickelson, Chez Reavie and Dustin Johnson - three strokes behind Ted Potter Jr - but needed to produce a moment of brilliance to avoid slipping down the leaderboard late in his final round.
Day still had a slight chance of putting pressure on Potter as he made his way to the par-five last, where he attacked the flag in two as he chased a closing eagle.
The Australian elected to hit driver off the deck from the middle of the fairway and pulled his effort on to the pebbles on the beach, before pitching over the bunker and into the green with his third shot.
After splashing out of the sandpit to 20 feet, Day then nailed his putt to leave the par-five 18th with an unlikely five.
