Ahead of Rory McIlroy's return to competitive golf in Abu Dhabi this week, we look back on one of his landmark shots as he made his first hole-in-one as a professional here in 2015.
McIlroy's moment of magic came at the 15th hole in the second round, and was the perfect way to atone for missing close-range birdie chances on the previous two greens as he stayed within touch of leader Martin Kaymer.
European Tour hole-in-one King Miguel Angel Jimenez had aced the 177-yard 15th in round one, and McIlroy emulated the Spaniard on day two when his perfectly struck nine-iron pitched just short of the pin to the left, and his ball dug in on the first bounce and the cut-spin directed it straight into the cup.
"It definitely made up for the previous two holes," McIlroy said afterwards. "It was a perfect number, a straight downwind 177. I had been playing well, but had not been putting so good, so that took the putter out of it!
"As soon as it left the bat it looked like it had a chance. It's my first one ever in competition as a pro, and obviously the beers are on me tonight."
McIlroy would go on to finish runner-up by just a single shot to surprise champion Gary Stal after Kaymer famously blew a 10-shot lead on the final day.
