Tommy Fleetwood fired a bogey-free 66 to grab the early lead at the Hero World Challenge, where Tiger Woods impressed on his return to action.
Fleetwood, making his sixth appearance in as many weeks, struck six birdies in a flawless display in the Bahamas to top the leaderboard by one shot over Rickie Fowler and Matt Kuchar.
World No 1 Dustin Johnson and Open Champion sit in a share of fourth with Justin Rose and Kevin Chappell, while Woods is part of the group three of the pace following an opening-round 69.
Woods marked his first competitive appearance since February by mixing five birdies with two bogeys, on a day where on three of the 18-man field didn't end the round under par.
Playing alongside Race to Dubai runner-up Justin Rose, Fleetwood posted back-to-back birdies from the third and added gains at the seventh and ninth to reach the turn in 32.
The European No 1 pushed home from 10 feet at the 14th and took the outright lead with a gain at the par-five next, before holing an eight-footer at the last to maintain his blemish-free card.
Fowler birdied his opening three holes on his way to a tie for second, with Kuchar moving alongside him after two gains over his final four holes.
FedExCup champion Justin Thomas finished on three under alongside playing partner Woods, while defending champion Hideki Matsuyama lies alongside US Open champion Brooks Koepka in a share of 14th.
