Andy Sullivan joins Nick Dougherty to share ways to get out of trouble from thick rough

Andy Sullivan joined Nick Dougherty in the Sky Zone to talk about his strategy in the rough after the first round of the British Masters, supported by Sky Sports.

Sullivan opened the tournament with a two-under 68 which featured birdies at the sixth and 13th and no dropped shots.

The 30-year-old Englishman has been in indifferent form in recent weeks and was pleased with his performance, pointing out that one of the keys to his score had been avoiding the thick rough at the Close House Golf Club.

Sullivan told Dougherty: "We had one out of the hay. We got very lucky, got a nice lie. But if you do hit it off-line around here it can gobble you up. And it's quite soft as well so you would be doing well to find it.

"I felt like anything around two or three under was going to be pretty decent today.

"I'm just happy to go out there bogey free. I've been making quite a lot of mistakes on the golf course so to try and limit them to none today was fantastic for me."

The pair then took a trip to the fescue near the Sky Zone with Dougherty placing a ball in three different lies in the rough and inviting Sullivan to explain his strategy, expectations and how to play the shot.
