Jason Day fired a hole-in-one during the second round of the BMW Championship

Jason Day continued an eventful week by firing a car-winning hole-in-one during the second round of the BMW Championship.

The former world No 1 posted a six-under 65 at Conway Farms Golf Club to close the gap on overnight leader Marc Leishman, with one shot, in particular, standing out from his card.

Day was one over after four holes but surged up the leaderboard with four birdies in a five-hole stretch around the turn, only to give a shot back with a bogey-five at the 12th.

The Australian holed a 30-footer to eagle the par-five 14th, before nailing his tee shot at the par-three 17th for the second ace of his PGA Tour career.

Day's hole-in-one from 188-yards saw him win a brand new BMW M760i courtesy of the tournament sponsors, with BMW also making a $100,000 donation to charity.
