Andy Sullivan enjoyed an excellent first day at the Scottish Open and headed to the Sky Zone to demonstrate how he hits a driver off the deck so sweetly

Andy Sullivan made an encouraging start to the Aberdeen Asset Scottish Open, firing a two-under 70 which included two outstanding shots using a driver off the deck.

Launching a driver off the fairway is a rare sight in any form of golf these days, mainly due to the size of the clubhead against the ball compared to 15 years ago.

But the firmer fairways of links course are more suited to the skill, and Sullivan nailed two of the best you could wish to see in the space of three holes on the opening day at Dundonald Links.

The Ryder Cup star nailed a driver at the par-five third which left him a relatively easy up-and-down for birdie, and he also came up just short of the green using the big dog for his second shot to the long fifth, although he had to settle for a par on this occasion.

Sullivan signed his card and then headed straight to the Sky Zone to explain to Tim Barter the secrets of pulling off such a difficult shot and, of course, he flushed it again .... and again!
