Bernhard Langer in hunt as Kenny Perry shares US Senior Open lead

Bernhard Langer delivered a back-nine charge to surge back in to contention at the second round of the US Senior Open.

Langer, who broke the all-time record for senior major wins at last month's Senior PGA Championship, fired four straight birdies on his way to a five-under 67 at Salem Country Club.

The German heads into the weekend in a share of fourth spot alongside Scott Verplank, three strokes adrift of midway leaders Kirk Triplett and Kenny Perry.

Triplett followed up his record-equalling 62 from Thursday with a three-under 67 in Massachusetts to set the clubhouse target at 11 under, which Perry matched after a round-of-the-day 64.

Beginning five off the pace, Langer reached the turn in 35 but made his move up the leaderboard by racking up four consecutive birdies from the 11th.

Perry recovered from bogeying his first two holes to fire eight birdies and move alongside Triplett, seeing the pair break the lowest under par score after 36 holes in the tournament's history.

Doug Garwood sits two off the pace in third place, while former major champions Tom Lehman and Fred Couples sit inside the top 10.
