Scott Jamieson recovers from a poor start and rattles off the birdies to share the halfway lead at the BMW PGA Championship

Scott Jamieson admitted it was crucial not to panic after he recovered from a poor start to earn a share of the halfway lead at the BMW PGA Championship.

The Scot kept a bogey off his card in his opening 67, but he dropped his first shot of the tournament on the opening hole on day two and then double-bogeyed the third.

But Jamieson regrouped and enjoyed a run of six birdies in seven holes around the turn as he rescued a 70 to end the day tied with Belgium's Thomas Pieters and Italy's Francesco Molinari on top of a congested leaderboard.

"It wasn't a great start," Jamieson said afterwards. "They are tough holes at the start. It's a tough stretch of the golf course, the first three holes, especially the way the wind was blowing today. The last thing you need to do in that situation is panic. Just try and take a wee minute to yourself and start again.

"It's obviously a massive tournament. That's why we play, so if I can just keep doing what I've been doing the first two days and hopefully I'm in a good place."

Meanwhile, Ryder Cup star Pieters was pleased with his second round which included one bogey at the third but the Belgian's scorecard was improved with four birdies.

Thomas Pieters reflects on grabbing a share of the halfway lead at the BMW PGA Championship.

"Much less stressful than yesterday. I hit a lot more greens today," said Pieters about his second-round performance. "Didn't make as many putts as yesterday but that's always going to happen. So I'm quite happy about today.

"You do need to think about kind of not linksy but you need to hit it in front of the flags sometimes and let it release and even with a wedge you have to play it for a couple bounces and then check. I love this type of golf where you have to think a lot more, other than just start throwing darts at the flag."

Molinari, who has recently favoured playing on the PGA Tour, produced an exquisite second round at the revamped West Course which included four birdies and two bogeys to card a 70 on a day where birdies were hard to come by.

The Italian is hoping his experience will count for a lot over the weekend as he looks to better his previous four top 10s in the past at Wentworth.

Francesco Molinari is one of three players tied for the lead heading in to the weekend at the BMW PGA Championship.

"Hopefully a lot but obviously hopefully at the same time, the ending will be different," he said. "As you said, I've been in position before. I just need to keep doing what I did the last few days. The short game has been really sharp, which is important, especially on days like today. So again, I just need to rest and get the energies back and do the same another couple of days."
