Justin Rose left it late to make it through to the weekend at the BMW PGA Championship after suffering a golfer’s nightmare during his second round.
The Englishman, a two-time runner-up at Wentworth, followed his opening-round 72 with a two-over 74 on Friday and needed a final-hole hole eagle to avoid a first missed cut since last year's US Open.
Rose opened with five consecutive pars before finding the bunker off the tee at the par-four sixth, where he then shanked his second shot right into the trees and out of bounds.
The Olympic gold medallist hit a provisional but had to take a penalty for his wayward shot, eventually racking up a quadruple-bogey to slide the down the leaderboard.
Two bogeys and two birdies over the next 11 holes left Rose needing at least a gain at the last to have any chance of making it through to the weekend, where he promptly drained an eagle-three.
