Kevin Kisner fired a hole-out eagle at the final hole to book him and Scott Brown a place in a play-off against Cameron Smith and Jonas Blixt at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

Kisner pitched in from just under 40 yards in fading light at TPC Louisiana to close a combined 12-under 60 and take the contest beyond 72 holes against the overnight leaders.

More than six hours of play were lost due to severe thunderstorms and meant the play-off couldn't be started before darkness fell, leaving the tournament requiring a Monday finish for the second year running.

The four players will now return for the sudden death contest, which will begin at 8am local time (2pm BST).

With tee times brought forward due to the threat of bad weather, Kisner and Brown made a fast start to the fourballs format and birdied their first six holes before the storms came.

The pair continued where they left off when play resumed, posting close-range gains over the next two holes on their way to reaching the turn in 28.

Blixt and Smith took a four-shot lead into the final round but only made two birdies on the front nine, before Smith posted a hat-trick of gains from the 10th.

The Australian nudged in from close range at the 16th and added another at the par-three next to edge ahead, before leaving himself a close-range birdie chance at the last.

That left Kisner facing a must-make eagle to stay in the contest, with his effort skipping across the wet green and clattering the flag before dropping in for an unlikely three.
