Watch how Fred Couples fired one of the most bizarre pars in Players Championship history in 1999

With Players Championship week finally upon us, we continue our countdown of iconic TPC Sawgrass moments by recalling Fred Couples’ crazy par from 1999.

Couples, a former winner of golf's unofficial "fifth major", is part of an elite group to have posted a hole-in-one at the signature 17th - where he also signed for arguably the most unlikely par ever seen at the Stadium Hole.

The American was struggling at five-over-par in 1999 when he reached the penultimate hole of his opening round, where he proceeded to splash his tee shot in to the hazard.

Couples elected against heading to the drop zone and had another attempt from the tee box, with his next effort dropping straight in to the cup for a slam-dunk par!

That unlikely three sparked a Couples comeback, where he made the cut before shooting up the leaderboard to end the week in fourth spot.
