Arnold Palmer provided one last memorable moment at Bay Hill in 2004 with a stunning driver off the deck at the 18th, with grandson Sam Saunders on his bag

Arnold Palmer provided a fitting finale to his PGA Tour career with a stunning driver off the deck on the final hole at the 2004 Bay Hill Invitational.

Making his last appearance as a player in his own tournament at his Orlando resort, the then 74-year-old needed a par at the 18th to break 80 and gave himself a good start as he split the fairway from the tee.

He didn't have the power to carry the water with his second, so the only option available was to run his ball onto the green through the narrow opening to the left of the hazard and let the contours take his ball towards the flag.

His teenage grandson, Sam Saunders, was on his bag that day, and as he explained to Sky Sports commentator Wayne Riley, he did all he could to persuade his grandfather to hit a three-wood instead of a driver off a tight lie.

"Give me the driver", was the reply from Palmer, who then backed up his aggressive instincts with one of the most memorable shots ever hit in the tournament, drilling his approach on a perfect line and onto the green to leave himself 20 feet for birdie.

The celebration that followed with Saunders, who plays the opening two rounds with Rory McIlroy this week, was another highlight for the incredible Arnold Palmer showreel, and he would go on to make an emotional, final competitive start at the Masters the following month.
