Jhonattan Vegas grabbed a share of the lead before storms brought an early finish to the second round of the Genesis Open.
Heavy rain and strong winds affected most of Friday's action and worsened as the second round progressed, with play suspended at 12.18pm local time (8.18pm UK time).
Vegas was four under for the day after 14 holes when the horn was sounded, joining overnight leader Sam Saunders - yet to start his round - at the top of the leaderboard on seven under.
Cameron Percy holds the clubhouse lead at five under after posting a level-par 71, with Jordan Spieth also part of the group two strokes off the pace with two holes to play.
Only a handful of groups were able to complete 36 holes, while nearly half of the field were unable to get their second rounds underway.
Vegas defied the tough conditions to birdie three of his opening six holes, before briefly claiming the outright lead with a 20-footer from the fringe at the ninth.
The Venezuelan then failed to save par at the 11th to slip back to seven under, with Jason Kokrak a further stroke back but left facing a bogey putt at the same hole when play resumes.
Percy bogeyed his final hole to close a level-par 71, while Spieth mixed four birdies with a sole blemish to close his gap on the leaders.
Daniel Summerhays and Graeme McDowell are four strokes back with 36 holes completed, with world No 1 Jason Day a further shot adrift with three holes remaining.
Hideki Matsuyama, who could have moved to world No 1 with victory this week, looks set to miss the cut, while defending champion Bubba Watson will also make an early exit.
The second round is scheduled to resume at 7am local time (3pm GMT) on Saturday, with tournament officials remaining hopeful they can complete the tournament without a Monday finish.
