Sergio Garcia ended a three-year winless run on the European Tour with a three-shot victory at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic.
Garcia posted a blemish-free 69 at Emirates Golf Club to hold on to his overnight advantage and secure a first European Tour title since the 2014 Qatar Masters, with Stenson ending the week as runner-up.
Lasse Jensen fired a round-of-the-day 65 to join Tyrrell Hatton five strokes back in a share of third, with Matt Fitzpatrick a further shot adrift alongside Peter Uihlein.
Taking a three-shot lead into the final round, Garcia made a six-foot birdie at the first but saw Stenson respond with a gain of his own at the par-four sixth.
Garcia picked up a shot at the ninth to reach the turn in 33 and move four ahead, as Stenson drained a 20-foot birdie at the 10th but failed to save par from half the distance at the 12th.
George Coetzee briefly grabbed a share of second with four birdies in his opening 10 holes, only to slip down the leaderboard with successive bogeys from the 13th.
After Garcia missed a birdie chance from 12 feet at the 13th, Stenson tapped in at the same hole and picked up another shot at the next to cut the Spaniard's advantage to two.
Garcia responded by firing his tee shot at the 15th to two feet and tapping in, lifting him four clear when Stenson bogeyed after failing to get up-and-down from the rough.
Stenson's hopes faded with a missed birdie opportunity from 10 feet at the 16th, where Garcia hit a clever bump and run to save par, before the Swede closed his final-round 69 with a two-putt birdie.
Back-to-back birdies from Jensen over the closing stretch saw the Dane register his second-best finish on the European Tour, with Hatton alongside him thanks to a five-under 67.
One-time tournament leader Coetzee bogeyed three of his final six holes to slip into a share of seventh, and Scotland's Stephen Gallacher eagled the last to break into the top 10.
Ian Poulter carded four bogeys in a six-hole stretch on his back nine to close a final-round 76, while defending champion Danny Willett ended the week tied-54th.
