Andrew Johnston redeems himself with the fans at the 16th as he hands out a batch of headcovers on his way to the green

The "Beef" phenomenon gathered even more pace in the Arizona desert as Andrew Johnston handed out a number of gifts to the baying crowds on the 16th at the Phoenix Open.

Johnston has proved to be a firm fan favourite everywhere he has played over the last year, and he received a warm welcome from the Scottsdale locals on his first appearance in the "greatest show of turf".

However, he did incur the wrath of the stadium surrounding the notorious par-three 16th when he tugged his tee shot too far left, prompting plenty of booing as his ball just failed to cling onto the green and trickled down the run-off area into rough.

But he redeemed himself immediately as he grabbed a rucksack filled full of novelty headcovers and handed them out to the fans on his way to the green.

Unfortunately, Beef then pitched 20 feet past the pin and failed to make the putt for par - his second consecutive dropped shot - leading to more good-natured booing as he headed for the 17th tee.
