Tiger Woods lost a ball in one of Emirates Golf Club's water hazards during a day to forget at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic.

The 14-time major champion failed to register a single birdie during an opening-round 77 at Emirates Golf Club, posting five bogeys on his way to falling 12 strokes off the pace.

Woods slipped down the leaderboard with two bogeys from his opening three holes before worse came for the 14-time major champion after the par-five 18th.

Having left himself just 100 yards from the pin after his first two shots and looking at a potential birdie opportunity, Woods then misjudged his wedge shot over the hazard.

Although his approach initially cleared the water and found dry land, his shot came short of the green and rolled back down in to the drink.
