The key shots from Denmark's final-round 66 as Thorbjorn Olesen and Soren Kjeldsen powered to a four-shot win

Thorbjorn Olesen believes "mental strength" was the key to Denmark's World Cup of Golf victory as he celebrated a four-shot win with Soren Kjeldsen in Australia.

The Danes went into the final round at Kingston Heath armed with a four-shot lead after following their sensational 60 on Friday with a solid 69 in Saturday's foursomes, but their advantage had been trimmed to one as they laboured to the turn level par for the round.

But birdies at 10 and 11 kept them in front of the chasing pack, and Olesen then reeled off three consecutive birdies from the 13th before he sealed Denmark's first victory in the competition with a 15-foot putt for another birdie on the final green.

"It was tough but me and Soren have been great this week with just our mental strength," said the 26-year-old, who has enjoyed a lucrative November having claimed an impressive three-shot win at the Turkish Airlines Open earlier this month.

"We've been very, very good keeping calm and playing our own game and we've both been playing well. So I wasn't too nervous on that back nine, and I felt like we've got to make some birdies at some point. They came at the right time.

"We play different games but I think that's actually really nice because then we don't talk too much about the shots with each other, we just play our own shots and I think that helped a lot."

Kjeldsen, who is 15 years older than his partner, added: "It's been an absolutely incredible week and I've enjoyed it so much.

"I've enjoyed the camaraderie with Thorbjorn. I've been so impressed by his game, his attitude, and I think we've had a great time and that reflects in the result.

"When you've got a guy like this on the back nine on Sunday, it's like you feel you want to die for the guy. It's different and that's been really interesting to feel this.

"I sort of get the sense why teams get so together when they play well. I've never really experienced that before this week. I really enjoyed that and that team feeling is amazing. We obviously don't get that very often."
