Ian Woosnam and Davis Love III added to World Golf Hall of Fame

Former world No 1 Ian Woosnam and US Ryder Cup winning captain Davis Love III are among the latest members inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame.

Woosnam was one of five inductees announced on Tuesday who were chosen by a 16-member "selection commission", which included Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player and Annika Sorenstam.

The 1991 Masters champion has previously been overlooked for a place, but said on Twitter he was "honoured" to be "joining so many great champions".

Two-time women's major champion Lorena Ochoa and 18-time LPGA Tour winner Meg Mallon were also added, with former golfer writer and broadcasters Henry Longhurst completing the list of new entries.

Speaking about Woosnam's addition, Nicklaus said: "Woosie got a lot out of his game. He was a great competitor and handled himself very well. He's been on a lot of Ryder Cup teams and captained quite a bit.

"He's been a great contributor to golf from the European side, and I'm delighted to have him inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame."

Love guided the USA to Ryder Cup victory at Hazeltine earlier this month, having won the PGA Championship and over 20 PGA Tour titles during an impressive playing career.

Reflecting on Love's induction, Player said: "Davis has an outstanding record not only as a player but as a gentleman. He's been a tremendous contributor and has been an all-around man for golf. It's terrific to see him in the World Golf Hall of Fame."
