The hosts came in to the week off the back of just one victory in their last seven tournaments, but went in to the final day well-placed to end that run, holding a three-point lead.

Patrick Reed narrowly defeated Rory McIlroy in the opening Sunday singles match, before Rickie Fowler, Brooks Koepka and Brandt Snedeker put further points on the board for the hosts.

Phil Mickelson's epic contest with Sergio Garcia ended all square to leave the USA needing just half a point to claim victory, with Moore and Lee Westwood level as they made their way to the last.

Moore found the fairway off the tee before sending his approach to within 10 feet of the pin, as Westwood struggled and took three strokes to find the green.
