Luke Donald hopes to make a point to Europe's Ryder Cup captain Darren Clarke after moving up to third place after three rounds of the Wyndham Championship.
Donald is hoping to become one of Clarke's three captain's picks for the event at Hazeltine next month although even a win at Sedgefield Country Club will not help him become an automatic qualifier.
But the Englishman hopes to contend on Sunday and show Clarke his form is returning, even though he trails 54-hole leader Si Woo Kim by five shots.
Donald, who had a hole-in-one during Thursday's first round, made six birdies on Saturday in a six-under 64 to stay in touch with the Korean youngster.
He birdied the fourth and fifth holes in reaching the turn in 33 but made a move on the back nine where further shots were picked up at 10, 12, 14 and 16, the latter having been the venue of his ace.
"I need to win probably tomorrow and probably need to have a good chance to win The Barclays to have a chance," said the former world No 1, whose current ranking is 90.
"It's been a slow season for me. It hasn't been consistent but I've been working extremely hard and it's nice to see some form coming into play."
Even then, Donald's 13 under total is distant of the lead as Kim matched his round of 64 a day after going so close to a 59.
Kim had seven birdies in his Saturday effort with his only dropped shot of the day coming at the fourth.
His lead is four shots going into the final 18 holes with the closest challenge coming from another European - Spain's Rafa Cabrera-Bello.
Cabrera-Bello could have been a couple of shots closer to the lead but for a costly double bogey at the seventh, although he did follow that by birdieing three of the next four holes.
Donald shares a tie for third place with Jim Furyk and Kevin Na, who both shot 67 in their third round.
And Northern Ireland's Graeme McDowell is just about in range for a Sunday charge as he sits one more shot back after a round of 64.
