Will Wilcox earned himself a place in the history books at TPC Sawgrass as he became the first man in 14 years to make a hole in one at the 17th.
Wilcox lit up the second day of The Players Championship with his perfect wedge at one of the most famous par-threes in golf, sending the thousands of fans in the galleries into raptures.
The young American took dead aim and made pure contact, and his ball pitched 10 feet short of the target before rolling gently into the cup for only the seventh ace at 17 since the tournament's inception in 1974 - and definitely the first with a yellow ball!
There have been 6,300 unsuccessful tee-shots to the island green since Miguel Angel Jimenez holed out way back in 2002. Brad Fabel was the first to achieve the feat in 1986, and he was followed by Brian Claar (1991), Fred Couples (1997), Joey Sindelar (1999), Paul Azinger (2000) and Jimenez two years later.
Wilcox, who moved to five under for the tournament, was also the first player to make a hole in one at 17 in the second round.
