Highlights from the final round of the 2015 Wells Fargo Championship

Rory McIlroy returns to this week's Wells Fargo Championship as defending champion, looking to replicate last year's record-breaking triumph and build on his strong record at Quail Hollow.

McIlroy claimed the first of his 11 PGA Tour wins at the tournament in 2010 and went on to post three consecutive top-10 finishes in the event from 2012 before his seven-shot triumph last season.

Last time around, the Northern Irishman came to North Carolina in impressive form having followed victory at the WGC-Cadillac Match Play with a top-eight finish at the Players Championship.

The-then world No 1 found the water and ran up a double-bogey at the 17th on his way to an opening-round 70, but went into the weekend within three of joint-leaders Robert Streb and Webb Simpson by carding a 67 on Friday.

McIlroy made his move up the leaderboard in stunning fashion during the third round, breaking his own course record with an 11-under 61 to move four clear of the chasing pack.

Nine birdies in a 10-hole stretch from the seventh had left McIlroy edging towards a potential '59 round', only for him to close his second blemish-free card in succession with back-to-back pars.

McIlroy, taking a commanding lead, barely needed to get out of first gear during a three-under 69 to see him end on 21 under, seven clear of nearest challengers Simpson and Patrick Rodgers.
