Alex Cejka hit a hole in one on the 17th at the Honda Classic.

Alex Cejka thrilled the vast galleries around the 17th hole at PGA National with a stunning hole in one on the first day of the Honda Classic.

The popular German journeyman had bogeyed the first two holes of the notorious Bear Trap to slip to four over for the day, but he provided the perfect response in front of the appreciative fans in the grandstands at the next.

Cejka flushed an eight-iron at the 177-yard par-three, and his ball landed softly five feet from the pin before disappearing into the cup for his second ace of the PGA Tour season.

"I wanted to get at least one birdie coming in, and it was a perfect number for a great eight-iron," said Cejka, who won his only PGA Tour title in his 287th start at last year's Puerto Rico Open.

"I just hit it pretty solid and it was right at the pin all the time. With the wind, you don't know how it's going to react, but it stayed pretty straight and it just pitched shy of the hole and disappeared. It was a crazy feeling, and especially in front of the crowds here, that was very nice."
