Patrick Reed sets up an eagle with a huge 309 yard approach at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions

Patrick Reed set the early pace after a strong finish to his opening round at the Hyundai Tournament Champions, moving into the outright lead with a stunning approach in to the par-five last.

The American didn't drop a shot during his flawless seven-under 65, but left it late to make his surge up the leaderboard in Hawaii.

Having already posted four birdies in a five-hole stretch along the back nine, Reed produced the perfect tee-shot at the 660-yard 18th and saw his drive find the middle of fairway.

Reed was still some 309-yards from the flag, but nailed his next blow to the far side of the green and watched the ball trickle to within 15 feet of the pin before sinking the eagle putt.
